GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Temporary Election Day Only Worker is available for citizens who are only able to work the day of Election Day and consist of serving voters by helping out at Drive-up Tent Team locations or on the Election Night Ballot Security Team.

DUTIES:

Drive-up Tent Team:

Election Day Drive-up Tent Team Judges will work outside for the duration of their shift. They will collect ballots from voters who drive up to the drop-off location and will securely deposit the ballots in the drop-boxes. Drive-up Tent Teams shifts will be either in the morning at 6:30 am - 1:00 pm or afternoon, 12:45 pm - 7:15pm. This position requires Computer Skill Level 1 (Minimal).

 

Election Night Ballot Security Team:

The Election Night Ballot Security Team begins their shift at 4:00 pm on election day at the Arapahoe County Elections Facility. In bipartisan teams of two (2) they depart the facility, in private vehicles, and head to 24-hour drop boxes. At 7:00 pm on election night, they are in place and lock the 24-hour ballot drop box, remove ballots and place them in a locked and sealed box for transport and receiving at the Elections Facility. This position requires Computer Skill Level 1 (Minimal).

 

Additional Duties:

  • May assist in retrieving, returning and receiving ballots collected from voters or 24-hour drop-off boxes and Voter Service and Polling Centers (VSPCs).
  • May be interacting with the voting public.
  • Must accurately complete chain of custody documentation.

 

Supervision Received

Receives immediate supervision from Election employees and/or Election Judge Leads. May also receive supervision from the Election Managers or the Deputy Director of Elections.

 

Interpersonal Contacts

Primary contacts are with the voting public, the Ballot Security Team, and other Election Judges at their assigned location. Judges may also interact with employees of Arapahoe County Elections. Contacts require the ability to exercise a high degree of interpersonal skills to influence persons at all levels. Incumbent is accountable for the results of the contact.

REQUIREMENTS:

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of state statutes, regulations, procedures and forms applicable to Elections division operations.
  • Personal communication skills enabling courteous and diplomatic interactions with elections watchers as well at establishing effective working relationships with other election judges and election staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work long hours when needed.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use personal cell phones for communication with elections staff and other election judges.
  • Ability to remain calm and positive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks within the project and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a team player, and independently, with some direction.
  • Ability to accurately sort, file, and review documents.

Education and Experience:  

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A resident and registered to vote in Colorado
  • Pass a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check
  • Not a candidate or a relative to the 2nd degree of a candidate on the ballot

 

Additional Requirements:

Election Night Ballot Security Team:

  • Must also pass a Colorado Motor Vehicle background check
  • Must be comfortable driving in a private vehicle in a bipartisan team

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is outside in the elements or maybe driving a personal vehicle.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Spends 90% of each day standing and walking and 10% sitting.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication, as well as communication through automated devices such as cell phone.
  • The ability to work outdoors, under an awning or tent during any weather conditions. Propane heaters will be provided as needed.
  • Occasionally lifts or carries up to 50lbs, with the assistance of a co-worker.
