GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Facility Services Plumber performs skilled plumbing, installation and repair work on plumbing systems in county-owned or county-leased buildings and facilities.

DUTIES:

  • Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures (such as sinks, toilets, and water heaters) in commercial structures.  Analyzes malfunctions and makes repairs or adjustments.
  • Monitors and inspects facilities, equipment and systems to determine compliance with IPC (International Plumbing Code) and local standards, and need for repair or upgrade.
  • Collaborate with general contractors, other licensed or unlicensed trades, and other professionals during construction.  Reviews blueprints and construction plans.  Monitors and oversees contract work for compliance to established standards.
  • Perform routine inspections of plumbing and drainage systems, identifying and diagnosing plumbing problems using appropriate tools and techniques.  Schedules and performs detailed plumbing preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Maintains and cleans drain lines to ensure proper flow and prevent blockages using appropriate equipment.
  • Tests, certifies, repairs, and if needed replaces backflow prevention devices.
  • Operates specialized tools and equipment; operates computerized monitoring and testing as well as reporting systems.
  • Maintains records of operation, maintenance and repairs.  Prepares related reports; maintains inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Trains department employees as appropriate.
  • Will assist with building maintenance tasks, snow removal, and special projects when required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform physical tasks as assigned.
  • Knowledge of detention plumbing systems and standards (Preferred)
  • Knowledge and ability to follow safety rules, regulations and practices, including the ability to read at a standard high school level, enabling comprehension of warning labels and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of current State Plumbing and Building codes.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety practices common to the construction industry.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible plumbing experience
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job may be considered.
  • State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Plumbing License

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior experience training staff.
  • Cross-Connection and Backflow License (If you don’t have one training will be provided.)
  • Detention Center Work

 

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), background check, physical capabilities examination, and drug screen.
  • Possession of a valid Class “R” Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
  • Will require fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.

 

Post-Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of bi-annual Colorado Justice Information System (CJIS) training.
  • Position is deemed essential, and incumbents must be available for winter storm and other emergency events including evenings, holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to work nights and may be required to work some weekends based on business needs.
  • Work locations and facilities are subject to change based on business needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, paints, and building materials.
  • May work on roofs, crawl spaces, secured areas, and confined spaces May work on-call and varying shifts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Spends 10% of the time sitting and 90% of the time either standing or walking.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Frequently climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
  • Reliable verbal and listening skills and ability to communicate through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar, and in public meetings and personal interactions.
  • Constant use of hand/eye coordination enabling the use of maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to use computer or other work-related equipment.
