NOTE:
- The position will lead after school programs with partner organizations and requires availability four days per week from 2pm - 6pm.
- The position is expected to be available one weekend per month to table or lead activities at community events.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The CSU Extension Bilingual Educator supports the community and the education of Latino, immigrant, or bicultural/bilingual communities by assisting in the delivery of educational and cultural programs in Spanish (Arabic, Amharic, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), Korean, Russian, or another widely spoken language in Arapahoe County), English or both as needed at the schools, libraries, community centers and other public spaces that County residents use on a regular basis and where they feel comfortable and confident. This position will help foster partnerships with Latino, immigrant or bicultural/bilingual communities in Arapahoe County. They will assist with outreach and community events, and support in the recruitment and training of Latino, immigrant, or bicultural/bilingual volunteers to assist in the delivery of educational programs.
DUTIES:
- Deliver bilingual educational programs in Spanish (or other second language), English or both as needed to children, teens, adults, and families.
- Plan, coordinate and lead youth and teen day camps and community cultural events. Transport and handle program supplies including STEM equipment and baby chickens.
- Attend outreach events at schools, community centers and other community events to provide information in Spanish (or other second language) and English.
- Collaborate with county staff, county government, schools, libraries, local community organizations, and other CSU academics and campus faculty (if applicable) on the design and delivery of new, innovative, and culturally responsive programs using a variety of educational methods that respond to the local Latino, immigrant, or bicultural/bilingual population’s interests and needs.
- Attend community outreach events, tabling events, community collaborative, and/or educational events to promote CSU Extension Programs including evenings and weekends.
- Assist other Extension programs with outreach efforts in Spanish (or other second language) and English to expand and diversify youth and adult volunteer membership and retention.
REQUIREMENTS:
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Fluency in Spanish Language (or one of the languages mentioned above), native speaker preferred.
- Public speaking experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish (or other second language) and English to conduct programs for Latino, immigrant, or bicultural/bilingual kids, teens, and families.
- Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment, especially the Latino, immigrant, or bicultural/bilingual community.
- Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Administrative skills (answering questions, maintaining schedules, generating reports, logging procedures, etc.)

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Some experience leading youth activities or delivering educational content (classroom, summer camps, recreational programs).
- One year of clerical or administrative experience.
- One year of customer service or sales experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Ability to develop, deliver, revise and adapt a lesson plan with a learning objective for a specific audience.
- Experience translating and/or interpreting between English and Spanish (or other second language).
- Experience working with video production, photography or other storytelling mediums.
Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
- Possession of a valid Class “R” Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
- Must successfully pass Spanish (or other second language) tests for speaking, reading, and writing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work environment consists of a mix of office time and school or community center visitation.
- Local travel required. Employee will have access to county vehicles.
